Cushmaker.com co-hosts 2-day training program with Otto Bock

The first presentation of the Advanced Education Series by Otto Bock Health Care took place May 12th and 13th in Pomona, California. Co-hosted by Cushmaker.com and Otto Bock the two-day training program was held in Trendle Hall at the Western University and attended by nearly twenty therapists and Rehab dealers.

The presenter Kelly Waugh, MA, PT provided an information packed program from 9:am to 5:pm on both days. Entitled “Addressing the needs of individuals with moderate to severe postural problems”; Kelly’s program covered every subject area from Sitting Biomechanics, Pelvic and Spinal Deformities and Abnormal Head and Neck Posture. Day two of the program commenced with a full postural assessment of a volunteer subject, Martha Cervantes - accompanied by her father, Refugio and aid, Margaret - and concluded with the creation of a body mold using the OBSS indirect molding simulator and Shape System digitizing software. The seat and backrest will be carved at the Otto Bock facilities in Minneapolis using the body mold created during the program. The entire seating system will then be detailed, fitted and upholstered by Cushmaker.com. Photos of the whole process and finished product will be posted on this site once completed.

Otto Bock was quite generous throughout the program giving away sports bags and numerous workbooks (valued at $40.00 each) to several attendees asking pertinent questions or providing the correct answers to questions put forth by Kelly. Cushmaker.com also chipped in with free giveaways of logo-embellished shirts, note pads, pens and dog tags. A continental breakfast and a full lunch were provided each day for all attendees and support staff.

The two-day program provided 1.4 CEU and is accredited by the University of Pittsburgh. Otto Bock will repeat the program several times this year in various venues throughout the US. Contact them at 1.800.328.4058 for details. The energetic and highly skillful, Kelly Waugh will return to California in November 2003 and present a 3-day program at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) with emphasis on posture assessment techniques.
